I'm Not Paying My Electric Bill Anymore - I'm Going Green
By Evan Fisher
In your travels around the neighborhood have you seen those houses that have huge tinted windows in them? Have you been wondering why anyone would want such long tinted windows for? Chances are very good that they are not trying to be trendy they are capturing the solar rays that will heat their homes and also power them. No matter what type home you live in, it is relatively easy to make the conversions necessary to heat and power your home with solar energy. It is even easy to build a solar system that is inexpensive to heat your water.
Solar power will run your lights and appliances and the whole house. It used to depend on where you lived as to which side of the house that you placed your solar capture windows. But most people now use solar panels on top of their homes and they place the panels where they point south.
The reason is that the sun rises to where you catch the most rays on the south side of your roof. If you were using the windows to capture rays, you would also want the south side. Which ever type you use you have to take into account any trees that may block you capturing the suns rays. Also another helpful tip is use light colors to decorate the interior of your home. This will be very beneficial because it will attract the heat evenly through you house.
The biggest benefit of solar energy is once the initial investment of building your system is done that's it no more laying out money on your electric bill. You will recoup your investment pretty quick and then it is profit after that. Generate more power than you use and get a check from the electric company because your meter will run backward. Another advantage is, say a thunderstorm rolls through your neighborhood and knocks out the electricity. Well guess what it does not knock out your power because your power is coming from batteries that have stored up the power you have been generating while the sun was out.
On average you can reduce the amount of electricity you use from the electric company by about 50 to 80%. There are things you can do to save energy that, added to that number can totally eliminate your bill. Use power strips to turn off power to idle appliances and computers. Use ceiling fans so you don't have to run air conditioners as much.
Ceiling fans will spread the heat and air throughout your home in a more efficient manner. Using insulated metal doors will ensure that the weather outside stays outside. No hot or cold weather finding its way in from leaks. During the hot part of the day do not exit or enter on the side of the house that the sun is shining on.
If you decide to go with solar power you are insuring that our kids will inherit a clean planet because solar power is a pure combustion unlike fossil fuels that pollute our environment. It is time to consider solar energy because the Government is about to impose a massive tax on our energy bills and that with the bad economy is a horrible situation to let your self get caught in.
